Back in the day, a “dirty skirt” was a term used for a woman who had sex out of wedlock – usually spoken by men who were not necessarily following that rule themselves. I learned this term two years ago when colleagues and I were called this by an older fellow, referring to the fact that we were not behaving in the expected manner by our new boss – meaning, we weren’t being passive. While initially offensive, this became our war cry and the Dirty Skirt Club began.

I have since been using the term Dirty Skirt to refer to anyone that is faulted for acting in a way that’s considered acceptable for others. This could be due to gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, income level, politics, social status or just plain old hypocrisy.

This site is here to point out those social, political and professional inconsistencies around us. It is intended to let us poke fun of them while making us aware of how often these things still happen in our modern world.
